This year is the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, founded by the late U.S. Senator

Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin, and we are planning a unique event

focused on Wisconsin's contributions to environmental stewardship and

sustainability.

Confirmed speakers include environmental advocate Robert F. Kennedy

Jr., author Margaret Atwood, S.C. Johnson chairman and CEO Fisk

Johnson, Wilderness Society president William Meadows, and

environmental justice scholar Dorceta Taylor.

The celebration includes a special concert, “ECOTONES – A Musical

Ecology of Wisconsin,” at 8 p.m. April 20 in Madison’s Overture Center

for the Arts. The performance, featuring contemporary compositions

about Wisconsin’s environment by UW-Madison musicians, is free and

open to the public.
